Barcelona’s recent victory over Real Betis helped them win the Champions League next season while putting them in the race to finish second in La Liga this season.
But according to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Hernandez was not at all happy with the team’s performance in the match, despite the end result.
Since their 4-0 win over Real Madrid, Barcelona have failed to produce attractive and organized football that we can usually associate with the Catalans.
Often looking disjointed in defense and predictable in attack, it’s no surprise why Barcelona gave up so many points throughout April. The Real Betis match was no exception as the hosts once again seemed unpredictable and had to rely on Ansu Fati’s heroics.
The report indicates that Xavi is not completely satisfied with the performance against Real Betis. He is particularly unhappy with a few players including Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong and Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele’s case is intriguing, as the Frenchman was arguably one of the best players in La Liga until the beginning of April. But his purple patch seemed to have ended as the wing had become quite predictable.
Dembele showed a similar level of predictability against Los Verdeblancos and failed to create any real offensive opportunity. The same can be said of Ferran, while Frenkie delivered one of his worst performances this season.
The Dutchman, amid endless speculation about his future at the club, has struggled to impose his authority in midfield. His lack of form also comes at a time when the midfielder is feeling some resentment towards the coach.
His underwhelming performance could now force Barcelona to punish their summer exit, with Xavi reportedly on board with the idea of signing Bernardo Silva as a replacement.
